Volver means "to return," and in his new film Pedro Almodovár returns to the landscape of his youth, La Mancha - a landscape where strong winds blow, and fires spread. One of them killed the parents of Raimunda and Sole, sisters with different temperaments but similar lives. The more dramatic life is that of the energetic and beautiful Raimunda, determined to protect her teenage daughter and used to providing not only for her, but for her unemployed husband. She carries a terrible secret, which only her mother knows. Her mother is dead, though, and appears only as a ghost. But Raimunda, unlike her sister, does not believe in ghosts.
