Workshop Film Analysis
This workshop provides students with basic tools of film analysis. We study the way in which films tell stories, produce meaning and affect, and create audiences. We focus on various cinematic techniques (lighting, cinematography, sound effects, montage) in order to understand how cinema manipulates space and time, constructs points of view and archives the real. We analyze sequences from two films, very different in style, but with a similar topic: women trafficking from Eastern Europe. These films are Lilya 4-Ever (Lukas Moodysson, Sweden, 2002) and The Unknown Woman (Giuseppe Tornatore, Italy, 2006).
